The Dandenong Jayco Rangers held their annual MVP Auction night on Saturday night, which culminated in the announcement of home grown junior Steph Cumming being announced as the Rangers Most Valuable Player for the 09/10 season.
Cumming returned to the Rangers after two years at the Australian Institute of sport and quickly asserted herself as a key player in the Rangers line up. The season got off to an unfamiliar start for the up and coming star, with injuries to both the Rangers starting and back up point guard, Cumming found herself filling the shoes of the point guard role.
With the relief of Jess Mahony from Adelaide on the way (Coaches Award 09/10 season) Steph grew in confidence and assumed her role as a scoring guard and proved a very tough match up for opposition guards. Averaging over 11 points per game and scoring a season high 20 points on multiple occasions Steph showed that she can match it with the quality guards in the toughest WNBL season in over 5 years.
Jess Mahony was awarded the 2009/10 coaches award and import Casey Nash was announced as the winner of the Janine Fielder award (players player)
