Montreal Re-Signs For 2013
The Dandenong Solo Rangers have re-signed athletic import forward Daequon Montreal for the 2013 South East Australian Basketball League season.
Montreal, currently in his first season with the Solo Rangers is in fantastic form, averaging 18.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per outing, whilst guiding his Dandenong side to what stands as the best record in the league to date.
“I’m excited to be coming back next season. I’ve enjoyed the team and we’re doing well,” Montreal commented on his one year extension.
DQ, as he is known around Dandenong Stadium will also be joined by his wife Jamie & daughter Keyana in Australia for the 2013 season. “Bringing the family out will be huge. It’s been tough being away from them but to have them out here will be great.”
“I’m looking forward to continuing the success we’re having now. Now knowing the league and what it takes to get wins will be a great advantage. No doubt the landscape of the league will change with player movements but hopefully we can keep our core group together.”
The re-signing of Montreal is a massive coup for the Dandenong Basketball Association who have not only locked away a key component of their senior men’s program but fantastic ambassador for the DBA and SEABL out in the Greater Dandenong community. Montreal features heavily in Dandenong Basketball’s school & development programs - teaching young children the fundamental skills to success both on and off the court.
Basketball Operations Manager Leigh Gooding commented on getting the signature of Daequon for next season; “Our club is very excited to have commitment by Daequon and his family for another season with the Solo Rangers. His on-court presence including his ability to defend the key opposition big men throughout the SEABL, while bringing offensive flexibility with his developing inside/outside game can be a tough match-up. Adding to that he is a great person and an excellent role model for our club”.
The Dandenong Solo Rangers are in action this Saturday night at Sandringham, 7.30pm. Their next home game is on August 11 against Ballarat.
