SEABL Men: Rangers Topple Supercats

The Dandenong Solo Rangers have given validation to their mid season hype, defeating East Conference rivals, Geelong at Dandenong Stadium Saturday night - claiming out right 1st place in the East and the #1 ranking league wide.

In front of a good sized home crowd, Dandenong were forced to play catch up - Geelong skipper Jamie Medved nailing three long bombs to kick start the Supercats offense.  Geelong held a healthy advantage for the majority of the opening term, Dandenong having to work hard for every look at the basket. Brent Hobba threw down a thunderous dunk with a little over 3 minutes on the clock and the Rangers started to build momentum, closing the gap to 6 points at the end of the first.

Tony Lewis continued the high flying theatrics in the second, launching the crowd out of their seats as he cut the margin to 2 points. The Supercats responded well and a Kimmani Barrett buzzer beater kept the visitors in control at the main break.

Rangers captain Andrew Harms took the reins in the third period, breaking down Geelong’s defensive line at every opportunity. Venky Jois cleaned up underneath and Dandenong took control of the game.

Dandenong pulled away mid way through the final period, leading by as much as 9 points before a spirited Supercats revival. Geelong finished in a similar fashion to how they started, on the back of Medved’s shooting. The visitors got within 4 points but Dandenong held strong for a b4 point vitory, 83-79.
