Rangers in fund drive

DANDENONG Rangers' under-14 boys' and girls' teams are raising money to fund their visits to the national club championships later this year.
Both teams have qualified for the event, which brings together the best under-14 basketball teams in the nation.
The two championships both run between October 1-6 with the boys' championships in Kalamunda, Western Australia and the girls' championships in Morphett Vale, South Australia.
Players and parents from both teams are putting many hours into chocolate sales, barbecues and other fund-raising operations but both teams would like to attract any sponsorship they can.
Rangers marketing, communications and development manager Paul Flynn said any interested sponsors could contact him on 97947192 to make inquiries.
The Rangers' under-14 boys showed they are a legitimate national title contender by beating Nunawading Spectres to win the gold medal at the National Junior Classic tournament on the Queen's Birthday weekend. The Rangers won in the final minute after trailing during the last quarter.
The Rangers' under-14 girls finished fourth while the Rangers' under-18 girls came back from a 20-point deficit but lost to Melbourne Tigers in the under-18 women's grand final to finish with the silver medal.
In other Classic results the under-12 Rangers girls finished fourth, the under-16 boys finished 13th and the under-18 boys in 10th place.
? Dandenong Rangers men's and women's South East Australian Basketball League teams recorded big wins during their visit to Canberra on Saturday night.
The Rangers men beat Canberra Gunners 100-43 and the Rangers women beat Canberra Capitals Academy 86-58. Tony Lewis led the Rangers men with 22 points while Brent Hobba added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Clare Papavs led the Rangers women with 22 points, with Faith Probst scoring 17 points.
Both Rangers teams host Geelong at Dandenong Stadium this Saturday night, with the women's game at 5.30pm and the men at 7.30pm.
